Mayor’s Message

With this being the last Mayor’s message for the year, it is an opportune time to say thank you for your ongoing support this year and wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2009.

I would also like to extend thanks those people in our community who gave donations to the Gift Giving Appeal. Your generosity is appreciated and this year Council supported the Basket Brigade, a not-for-profit organisation that helps families and individuals in need.

And finally if you are travelling over the holiday season, please remember to take care on the roads. If you are spending the holidays at home in Strathfield, don’t miss the free community events including Australia Day celebrations on January 26 at Strathfield Park.

2008 Year In Review

As the end of the year draws to a close, it is timely for Council to reflect on the year and its achievements. This year Council won a number of awards including an environment excellence award for the Cooks River Restoration Project at Freshwater Park presented by the Local Government and Shires Association (LGSA). On top of this Council was awarded a Biodiversity Conservation Award Council at the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Awards in August.

Looking ahead in 2009, Council will continue to move forward with the completion of the Strathfield South Community and Library Centre at Edwards Park, and progress further with the Strathfield Town Centre Project. Additionally Council will undertake further measures as outlined in Council’s Greenhouse Action Plan to work towards Council’s goal of halving its emissions by 2015.

Community Calendar Now Available

Council is encouraging community members to pick up a free copy of Council’s 2009 Community Safety Calendar from Council’s Customer Service Centre and Strathfield Library until 30 January. This project was a joint initiative of Strathfield Council and NRMA Insurance Communityhelp Grants Program.
